Haha. Put your swashie on mode defend and taunt a spellcaster.

I feel cold and alone.

On topic though, This would be a gppd addition I think, and it should add something bonus to your defending. Additionaly, riposting should be turned off while in this mode. If a swash wants to sit there and do nothing but parry blows, then so be it.
My two cents on this.

What you've successfully done then, is take an already good tank, and turn him into a beast. (Mercs too). All they have to do is let someone else do the damage. Think about what taunt does. It pulls the fighter from one target to themselves. If the person switches, the swashie taunts again. Repeat process until all targets are dead. Sure, this won't make it impossible for a group to take down another group, but the group with the most mercs/swashies are the most likely to win. On top of that, think about the merc/swashie undead/controlable NPCs. Necros and sorcs are two classes than don't need a buff, and this would be huge for them. Put charmie on mood defend, and take long casting time for an FoD, FS, E-drain, <insert uber powerful spell here>...

I think that everyone has pointed out this is a bad idea. I am just jumping on the band wagon. This is a very bad idea.

buffs would be bad. Not fighting back would be good for RP.

That is something I had in mind when mentoring combat moves, what better than teaching through doing (still that could be RPed) if its a mode activated only when you are not grouped solely to enhance the mentoring experience, then I am all for it.

You make a good point. I mean, fighting with fists is all good and fine, but how many people want to be caught with only their fists if an enemy walks in? Also, for the people who don't like killing and don't want to hurt other people, this would work for them. They can defend themselves without hurting anybody else.(Extreme, but possible, case)

I won't deny that there are a a lot of potential uses for this, but the ability to abuse this, and how much it would consequently affect the game is astronomical.

'nuff said I think.

My original idea was simply for training skills for the most part, or fighting so you could walk away without having to flee. I guess I didn't express it correctly.

And no I didnt look at how horrible it would make groups, I was thinking training not group raids. Looking at the examples makes this idea look horrible outside of training. But It would be nice to have a way to RP trainings, because that would be great for Mentor/Student things.
