To ny knowledge there was only a rule about greeting because voodoo required it (and a certain skill that I happen to hate a lot). I don't think a greeting rule would be easy to enforce - but there SHOULD be a way for people who use the certain skill I hate, to use it on people that refuse to greet them because they can use that certain skill.

Said character, me, was pseudo-spying on you and simply asked you to make the game mechanics reflect what he already knew. Amadeo, you're a bad, bad man. But more importantly..

This accomplishes nothing. I'd really like to have this set straight by an Imm.

Making game mechanics reflect what one already knows. Brilliant. Unfortunately that's also a worthless concept.

Let's see...I'm going to use a slippery slope here. I'm going to give my character some ooc knowledge, and know who plays in Midnight. Oh, wait! This means all of Midnight should greet me.

Just because you know who someone is, does NOT mean they have to greet you. Especially if you're going around spying on people with hostile intent.

Since, this has gone into a flaming, shouldn't this be moved to GD?

Nah. The flamers should have their accounts removed instead.

Eh? Woops, forgot we weren't in GD. I'll wipe that off.. And what I meant, is for game mechanics to reflect what you ICly know.

Gold, it's pretty clear you have no idea what we're talking about, right now, or you wouldn't've made that post about ooc info. Having a text base makes recognition unnaturally skewed as is. It just seems like an ooc discourtesy to not greet those who've overheard your name. True, it creates a downside, in that people who were sincerely not paying attention will mysteriously know you- but that's completely solved, and then some, by the suggestion thread following this one. Consider this axed, and moved there.

Actually, I have a really big idea of what this thread is talking about. Being forced into greeting whoever you're in the presence of that happens to know your name. I disagree with it.

Reading through the last couple things here..

When you are in a public place, and interacting with a few people, are you going to shout loudly and to everyone what your name is, or just speak audibly, and have those near you/participating in conversation more than likely hear your name?

To clarify what happened with Amadeo - everything was RP, til I spoke my name aloud and greeted the person I had been interacting with. Someone told me to greet them OOC. I responded briefly OOC I would when addressed IC on the matter. It got a bit out of hand, and I took to just ignoring the OOC, and in the end I did not greet said individual, nor they I.. which makes sense, because there was no further (nor prior) interaction between the two characters at that location at that time.

I have no real quarrel with the player here.
And if paths cross again and there is reason to greet, then it shall come to pass.

I understand why him jumping right OOC would be annoying but the problem is that you announced your name to the room and only game mechanics stopped him from knowing your name. You may have considered it a private conversation but everyone around could hear every word so it makes no sense that only that one person should know who you are. If you want to introduce yourself without other people in the room knowing then you should send a tell or form a group. Says aren't personal at all, they're completely public. That's why I almost exclusively use Greet All even if no one else is paying any attention to me.
