Every time someone mentions that they want to make grouping required on SK i cringe. Group levelling CAN'T be a necessity on a game with a small number of players, especially with the RP restrictions involved on SK. What's the average number of players online, 30 to 50? So out of that many people you'll need to find a group of characters within five to ten levels of you, similar alignments, compatible personalities, complementary classes, and a desire to go out and grind on NPCs at that particular moment rather than look for equipment or do a quest or roleplay.

I've played on MMOs that require groups for levelling. It can take hours to get an acceptable party together, and that's with thousands of people on a server and no roleplaying restrictions.

The more you coerce players to play together, the bigger the community grows.

This is something that can be shown quite easily.

So show it.

That is all.

That's not what this says. Grouping bonuses are fine. Making grouping nearly required isn't.

Okay. I'm wrong. You're all right.

I don't particularly need to argue the point. There's a reason mmos are successful, folks.

that's true, when it's hard to get a group, grouping shouldn't be necessary. I like it the way it is.

Oh, wait, you already conceded the point. Well, might as well kick you while you're down, right? :)

MMOs are successful because they have huge playerbases of ANONYMOUS people.

I don't know about you, but forcing me to group with you jerks would make me hate leveling in SK a hell of a lot more than I already do.

Grakus, I'm not going to give you a knee-jerk reaction to why forcing groups are bad - instead, I'll give a reason, and hope it sinks in.

We have a limited playerbase. Only a fraction of that playerbase is going to be at the same level range at a given time. A partition of that fraction, is going to be the same aura. A piece of that partition, will not be on during the same times as the others. This piece is now behind the curve of the others, and the others, will not be conducive to helping out the piece - they will get bored, irritated, or annoyed for doing something that is of no direct value to them. The people who make groups with ooc connections, log in at the same time, progress at the same rate, are not affected by the need to group level. Those with no such connections, or little of them, are hampered by it. I have much experience with this "reasoning".
