Even if Dulrik implements this change, there is nothing that will force you to spend time at an inn. Yeah, the code would strip your character of any unique/limited items, if you didn't have the requisite hours. However, you still have a choice.

This still benefits the way you play the game and not the way I play the game.

As far as the scaling of play time, if you still have a minimum people will find out what that minimum is and then distribute the loot among alts, playing them for the minimum, while keeping the loot out of circulation.

As I said if you combine the different ideas you begin to limit the way in which people can distribute and hold loot. I still don't understand what the cry over having a limit to your inventory is? If you want to stop hoarding as a general problem, implementing some form of item cap is ideal, adding additional log in time, and then other measures if need be would quickly limit the ability to store loot.

I don't like the inn idea, it's too easy for those people searching for these goods to get past city defenses and get to people. I am not even trying to hold onto any high end loot as I don't have any. I do however tend to get caught up in battles at inns on a regular basis because they are easy pickings for the vet/pk crew.

Seriously considering this though, one approach is not going to limit hoarding, you need a multi directional approach.

Monkey,

What if you can't gate into a city but are required to spend ~ 10% of your playtime in an inn?

If you actually make it a challenge to get into a city, then sure.

Inn time is wayyyyyy to easy to deal with. Even with 30hrs/mo, I could easily spend that time at an inn and nothing would happen, just wait till the weeee hrs of the morning and bam

That was kind of my point w with having a multi tiered approach.

Since the point is to promote socialization, perhaps the hours wouldn't count unless there was someone else present.

The only way I can see it working is if the hours in the inn works only counts if there are enough potential enemies online. Defining an enemy can be an arduous task in of itself.

Problem is when I log on at 8 am and there are three people online and that is my time to play for a week. OR if you find yourself on the wrong side of an alignment shift and it is you and 18 other people and they are all out to kill you.

I think this is poor way to go about promoting socialization. I would try and separate the goal of dehoarding and socialization.

If hoarding is such a problem with this small a player base maybe items are just too limited.

Except there are lots of items available. People just like to hoard. It's a compulsion. And other people want what they can't have instead of exploring to find alternatives. Ideally we could harness these compulsions into behaviors that are good for the game instead of bad for it.
